Robert asks…

What type of pants should we use for the "flying monkeys" in our Wizard of Oz production?

We're doing a production of "the Wizard of Oz". So far for the flying monkeys, we have a black spandex/body armor top, wings and whatnot, but we're at a loss for what to have for the bottoms. We are refraining from using spandex pants. Help?

Little Munchkin answers:

Just use black tights, you know panty hose or just plain old black jeans!

What are 3 themes of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz?

I have been looking everywhere and I am awful at finding themes for books. Yes I've read the book, so I'm not being lazy. I just don't know how to look. And what site can I get critical essays on the book?
I have one theme Self Sufficiency. THANK YOU!

Little Munchkin answers:

I'll give you a hint at a couple: brains, heart, courage. You'll have to take it from there.

I hear the book "The Wizard of Oz" was banned in some States...?

Is this true and why was this?

Little Munchkin answers:

It was true because the wizard of oz was actually making fun of the president and his cabinet... It really quite interesting if you look it up in political science books... And quite funny at how they disguised the characters... But really quite accurate

Sharon asks…

What are some creative Halloween costumes for two teenage girl friends?

My friend and I both play flute, and we want to coordinate our costumes for our marching band Halloween parade. I am 16 and she is 15. Obviously, this is related to school, so we don't want any sexy costumes. We most likely will be making them, so we'd like creative, but easy ideas.

Thanks!

Little Munchkin answers:

You girls can be evil dolls or little sisters from Bio Shock those are creative and challenging costumes and fit for halloween. OR You girls can be goddesses because it fits for the flutes.

Ruth asks…

Do persian and munchkin cats get along with other pets, especially dogs?

just wondered?
tar x
Yeah, I do mean a young kitten as i wouldnt expect a fully grown cat that hadn't been around dogs to get along with them
I have a golden retriever and a shih tzu but both are very friendly and loveable x

Little Munchkin answers:

Depends on whether or not the cats have had contact with dogs. If they are kittens they will grow to like the dogs. However, a fully grown cat, no matter the breed, will probably fear the dog and there will nothing you can do about it. My male cat came to me fully grown, but he loves dogs and has obviously been around them before. My female came to me as a kitten. At first she didn't like them but now she cuddles with them. Cats are naturally afraid of dogs and you need to get them together early.

Richard asks…

Genetic defects: Munchkin cats, Scottish Folds etc?

Does anyone have any good websites on why these cats should not be bred? I think a lot of people don't realize the health defects that these cats are prone to, and I'd like to help educate on that.

Thanks!
jen the read: Thanks! I haven't had much luck with Google on this, but I'll try those keywords.

levdubya: Thanks!

Little Munchkin answers:

In the UK, the GCCF does not recognise the Scottish Fold or the Munchkin. The GCCF considers that the gene which produces the folded ears also causes skeletal abnormalities, producing stiffness of the limbs and tail which increases with age. Foreshortened limbs are also considered detrimental to a cat's health and welfare, so the Munchin is not recognised for this reason.

The Messybeast web site has a great section on genetics and here's a couple more articles you might find interesting.

http://www.messybeast.com/ultracat.htm

I'd personally also like to see an end to the breeding of flat faced Persians and Exotics because of the health problems associated with such a short muzzle. These breeds are not as popular in Europe as they are in America, but I don't know if this is based on looks or whether people dissapprove of them because of the health problems.

EDIT: Found a couple more articles exploring the health problems associated with Munchkins and Scottish Folds.

Helen asks…

Munchkin cats, any info?

My biggest question, and the one that voids all of the others, is: Are munchkin cats in the same ball park as teacup whatever dogs? I've done some research, not at all extensive, but it seems to be nothing more than a simple mutation likened to people having green eyes or what made weanertype dogs the way they are.

And then: Where could I get one? I would have no issue trying shelters, but I am more than possitive that not one person in this area knows that cats have breeds beyong fluffy and standard.

And last but so far from least: How expensive? By the time I'm ready to adopt one, money shouldn't be an issue, but I'd like to have it saved up by then.

Much thanks.
For the record, I know about the teacup dogs being nothing but an unhealthy runt with a different name thrown on them in order to charge more for a dog that'll wind up costing more in vet care than a normal sized, normal priced dog. I used it as a term of refference, but apparantly not as well as I had innitially thought.

Thanks to everyone, though.

HELP!!! nobody in my family really knows or remembers what the emerald people (or whatever) look like

Little Munchkin answers:

How is she the emerald city? Is their a character role? What play, there are a lot of variations?
Well i'm guessing she's a munckin, if so just get get bright colored matching bottoms and shorts with long socks.
That's what they look like.

If she's the guard, get her a emerald colored guard outfit.

If you are still unsure contact her director or stage manager. You don't want to waste $50 and find out it's the wrong costume.

Sharon asks…

Where can I get a 1st edition copy of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz?

I know it will be supremely expensive, but that's no matter (so no answers about that, please). I'll think of some way to earn that money. I've just always wanted the first edition of the most beautiful story I've ever read. Where do you buy rare vintage books like this?

Little Munchkin answers:

The first link has a wider variety. They range from 100000 to under 10000 dollars.
The second link has some for under 10000 dollars.

I was a little surprised at the prices. Of course they are probably negotiable.

Linda asks…

Does anyone here not believe in the bible but in another book like the wizard of oz?

Tell me what book you believe in & how it relates to the way you live your life. Actually, I believe in Mary Poppins. When every I want something in life like Mary did when she wanted the job as the nanny. Well, there was a whole line of people waiting for the job & a storm came & blew them away. I believe that is what happens in my life when I want something. The storm is my is God.
Why do you people think you own my right to believe what I believe. I am very happy with my beliefs.

Little Munchkin answers:

The Oz books are far better than the Bible in terms of internal consistency and unambiguous moral lessons.

Munchkin cats...where to get one?

I want to get one of those munchkin cats, but don't know where? Anyone know of a breeder in the southeast US?
To my knowledge, this is a new breed of cats. I have tried pet stores here, nobody even knows what they are.

Little Munchkin answers:

There are many good Munchkin breeders that breed healthy Munchkins that make wonderful pets. TICA, which is the second largest cat registry accepts Munchkins and has a breeder listing service. Terry Harris at www.MunchkinLane.com is a breeder and has a listing service as well. Another munchkin breeder listing service is available at www.TDCA.com . They have some very cool photos Munchkin hybrids on that site. Contrary to popular belief, Munchkins are very sound and do not suffer from the same sort of joint problems as Dachshunds.

Lizzie asks…

Question About Munchkin Cats?

I kind of want a munchkin cat but I don't know if they have any physical problems (or shortened lifespan) and I don't want to encourage breeding cats when there are so many on the street.

What is the typical lifespan of a munchkin cat, what (if any) physical problems do they face, and are there any munchkin cat rescue places that specifically place munchkin cats up for adoption?

Little Munchkin answers:

Lifespan of one of these cats - assuming they are of sound health to begin with - is about that of the average cat...15 yrs or so.

They can be prone to certain genetic disorders if not well-bred (and even sometimes if they are well-bred) like lordosis (a sway-back to the spine which can kill a kitten if the ribcage pushes against the lungs or heart) and pectus excavatum (the chest develops in a caved-in manner, which can impair respiratory & cardiac function as well). Neither of these disorders are specific to munchkins, but this breed seems to have a genetic predisposition for them, not surprising given the abnormal development of their spine & chest.

There are few rescues for this breed. They're out there, but you really have to hunt hard and probably wait a while for one to get a homeless cat. Munchkins are a new "breed" and there aren't a whole lot of them homeless. (give it time. As the breed grows in popularity, so will the need for rescues to find homes for abandoned ones.) it's not a recognized breed to most of the cat associations in the world, like our CFA. It's still too new for them to say it is a sound cat - they feel it's a genetic mutation which still has too many genetic problems. (yet they feel a cat with deformed ears like the scottish fold isn't? I adore scotties, but don't get the distinction in the deformities.)

so far they are not a very common breed, so you may have to search to find one of good breeding. Too many people don't understand genetics enough to be good breeders of munchkins. For example, to be properly bred, they cannot be bred to another munchkin. 1/4 of the litter will be stillborn this way, and the rest may have some serious problems. So make sure if you go to a breeder, it is someone who has lots of experience with them, and who has good references from both their vet and people who have bought their kittens.

Richard asks…

how long do munchkin cats live?

Little Munchkin answers:

This link says it has a life-span of 15 years.

Halloween Costumes For Triplet Babies?

I can't decide which three costumes to pick for Emmi, Gabi, and Nate. They will be about 6 months on Halloween. Choose your three favorites from this site please.
http://www.halloweenexpress.com/baby-infant-c-2_32.html

Little Munchkin answers:

My favorite costumes for my kids were the winnie the pooh characters that my mom made. So they have my vote. You could have so much fun with 3 babies. They could be the teletubies pretty easily. 3 little punpkins. Thats great that you adopted. There are so many kids in need of good homes. Congratulations.

Robert asks…

Which of these baby Halloween costumes is the cutest?

I'm having a Halloween party for my daughter's first birthday (it's on October 27th, but her party is October 30th). I was really looking for a unique costume, but I've been to every store that already sells costumes, and I've looked online, but all the unique cute ones (cupcake, donut, ice cream cone...ect) are sizes 2T and up.

The ones I've found so far (I've eliminated some already) are: pink bunny, lady bug, bumble bee, and pumpkin. Which one do you think is the cutest? Any OTHER suggestions for me? The reason I'm already doing this is because we are moving September 30th and I need to have 90% of things done by then.

Thanks.

Little Munchkin answers:

I love a baby as a pumpkin! I regret not dressing mine as one ( he will be 2 this year) while I got to pick his costume! Now he is more opinionated and I dont know if he will go for the pumpkin. But my next baby I am making a pumpkin for their first Halloween!! I vote pumpkin!
